I’ve been missing in action for a few days – I’m not really sure what was up with that other than an overall feeling of irritation/disgust with humanity in general. Weird, right? But as with all moods, it passed and today feels much cheerier and therefore suitable for blogging.
Yesterday, Gypsy, Skye and I ran errands which was quite fun (in spite of my human-driven crabbiness). We went to the bread outlet store and stocked up on several loaves of Wonder Bread (Freddy still prefers white bread for all purposes – the nutritionally bankrupt type), for a mere 3 dollars. I’m pretty sure that one loaf costs about that in the grocery store, so it felt like we really came out winners! We had to buy black jeans for Skye for her job and guess what? She found 2 pairs on the clearance rack for $8.00 a piece! I bought them both so she wouldn’t have to wash one pair over and over again.
On a completely different front, I’ve come to the conclusion that I must have a schedule for housekeeping. Without it, it’s far too easy to put off housework for other, more exciting projects and it’s not fair to my family to walk into a house that isn’t clean. I’ve always tended to be a bit of a perfectionist regarding cleanliness in the past, but working a full-time-and-then-some job made scrubbing and sweeping seem a whole lot harder than it should be. So tidying in lieu of deep down cleansing became the habit which I now must redirect. In the summertime I can honestly say I had very, very little time for spotlessness, but with winter practically here, there is no excuse for dog hair on the hardwood or dust on the ceiling fan! Anyway, I’ve written a schedule and so far I’ve been sticking to it - my house has never looked/felt better! (And it’s a wise woman who spends time tending her home when she’s too moody for socializing – it saves all sorts of snarky attitudes and hurt feelings.)
Today is for sewing – Karen Sue, where are you at with your quilts? I’ve got to cut all the flannel/plaid (“flaid”) squares for Freddy’s quilt, and sew together all the rows for Ricky’s quilt and before next weekend, I will be able to begin stitching together and then tying all the layers! FINALLY!

Howdy girl!
I have been suffering from stop, drop & roll syndrome for quite a while…you know, you come in the house, stop somewhere, drop something and then roll onto something or somewhere else! So, after a week of my 15yr old home with mono and no energy, I made some strokes of cleanliness and order yesterday and today. We replace our king bed with a new king bed a month ago, but hadn’t found a home for the old one yet… we pushed the mattress down into the basement family room and each of 3 kids has had a movie night with friends down there and sleeping on the couch, loveseat and mattress… the last one was Friday, so Saturday afternoon I made a couple of calls and my nieces would take the bed. One would take the king, give her sister her bed and the twin would go back to my brother’s house. So we did that shuffling yesterday. We also have 2 summer cars..one Monte Carlo and one 1984 Cutlas that we store in the winter, and we put them away Saturday and Sunday. I made white and wheat bread on Saturday, along with a few other things. Wow, those weekend days go so fast!! and then talking during my SS class yesterday, I got the boost I needed to start cleaning up my room a bit.. this was hubby’s old office and I inherited it about a year ago. It has also gotten alot of that stop, drop & roll treatment. So I started on one side and just cleaned up one area and made it welcoming. Then I took all the bags and stuff that was on the floor and had been since returning from my Scrap & Sew weekend in Sept and neatly put it in a row under a table and out of the way for now. I vac’d the floor there and then laid out the first of the flannel couch cozies and arranged them. I have sewed 60 – 9″blocks into 6 block rows and now am ready to sew the rows together. Then I left them there until this morning. I moved a couple of rows, but there is one material that I’m not sold on, so I may seam rip those blocks out and replace them with something else I have cut and then use them somewhere else. I’ll look at them again when I go home.
I could also use more cleanliness here, but it is such a stuggle to chose to clean or create…maybe this evening. I would like to work on my space some more and have a station that is set up for the graduation quilt(s) that I will be working on for June…perhaps I can work along on the applique sports blocks and have quite a few done before I need them…still need to decide who I am doing them for, besides my own daughter. It is a matter of where do you stop?? And another spot for the scrapbook(or 2) in progress for both of us…and still be able to do other things in there without having it look trashed! Ok, so I’m asking too much…but I worked in the laundry room this morning before I took the mono kid back to the doctor and then came to work, so ….how much can a women do in one day, while traveling the world to do it?? I’m bringing my quilts to your house…shhhh don’t tell anyone….we’ll just hide out and get r dun!!
