Finally Finished

Today I tied all 4 quilts, and after nearly 500 squares, my index finger needs icing and my neck needs a hot pad.
I’ve had a lot of fun with these, but I’m thinking bedtime can’t come early enough tonight. I’m done and in the words of Forrest Gump, ‘That’s all I’ve got to say about [...]

Too Darn Hot

I’ve obviously acclimated to cooler temperatures – last night I set the thermostat to 60, figuring this old country house would be too chilly come morning otherwise. Not, was I ever wrong! I woke up with a stuffy head that feels 3 times bigger than usual and who really wants to be an honest-to-goodness bobble [...]

Old Enough to Vote

Today is my birthday, and I’m thirty-blah-blah-blah years old. My great-grandma said a lady never tells her age, so I’m going to run with that.
I’ve successfully escaped to the country house and soon I will be layering the quilts so I can get them finished up. A day in the country, fireplace burning [...]

Okay, so we went, we saw and we purchased. Overall, a fun morning, but only because our moods were firmly entrenched in ‘party mode.’ I didn’t witness any shoving or wrestling, no shouting or fellow-shopper-trampling. Mostly it was madness, though, with impulse buying at its finest.
I found a few deals, my favorite is a 2qt [...]

O. M. G.

Update to the shopping saga, it’s 3:33am and Old Navy had a line that wrapped around the mall. We snapped photo evidence and promptly left the parking lot, heading for the Kohl’s store in our own town. Who knew there were so many people dying to buy $5 performance fleece?
Anyway, we are now waiting for [...]

Funny, 2:00am sounded like a much better idea yesterday at noon than it does right now. Apparently this is better in theory than it is in practice, then.
I’m pretty sure they call it “Black Friday” because it’s so blankity-blanking dark out when the stores open. In any case, my daughters and I are going shopping [...]

Thanksgiving dinner has been served, pots, pans and dishes have all been washed and my family has all gone home, loaded with leftovers. This year felt less frenzied than years past, simply because I’ve forgone the need for perfection.
It didn’t matter if rolls were snacked on hours before the meal – rolls taste better got [...]

WHEW!

Yeesh, it’s been a wicked-busy day! After a brief 5.5 hour trip to the country house at 7am, I got started cooking and I’m just now winding down for the night.
Turkey is in the brine, sweet potatoes are mashed, buttered and casseroled, and two batches of rolls are rising slowly on the chilly backporch. Apple [...]

Holiday Prep

Holy cow, I’ve been a veritable whirling dirvish of Thanksgiving preparedness! Cleaning house, painting bathrooms, food shopping, food pre-prep, a brief stint as a dirt ski instructor in my back yard… It’s been hectic, to say the least.
My laptop has been infected with the False Alert trojan, so I’m blogging via BlackBerry until that gets [...]

Who Buys this Stuff?

Paying for fuel earlier today, and standing in an unusually long line, I had time to peruse all the interesting shopping opportunities offered at the local Kum & Go. There were sun visor type hats with faux fur hair, stuffed hippy frogs, gallon and a half mugs for coffee and 5 pound Hershey bars. [...]
